Week 6 - Day 1 - Humble Beginnings

Today's Treasure:
" 'The Lord declares to you that the Lord himself will establish a
house for you' "
2 Samuel 7: 11

David's life has settled down tremendously at this point. He is now
king over Israel, and the endless struggles he kept facing in the past
are a memory.
Read 2 Samuel 7: 1 - 17
Fill in the blank
"The king was settled in his palace and the Lord had given him rest
from all of his enemies."
What concern did David share with the prophet Nathan?
David was concerned about the fact that he was living in a splendid
palace, but the ark was in a tent
In your opinion, which of his virtues did David display when he
expressed this concern about the dwelling place for God?
He was humble. David wanted God to be placed first. He wanted the
presence of God to be protected.
Beth points out that David must have been caught off guard by the
"quiet" in his life. He suddenly looked around and realized the
splendor of his surroundings. I am sure guilt overwhelmed him, and he
wanted his God to have more than him.
List the promises God made to the following:
David
To make his name great
To give David rest from his enemies
To establish a house for David
To be David's father
To never remove his love from David as He had done with Saul
To establish his kingdom forever

Israel
To provide a place for their roots to grow
To have a home of their own and not be disturbed
to no longer be oppressed by the wicked

David's offspring
To raise them up to succeed David
The house of David to endure forever through his offspring
David's throne to be established forever

Here, we must note that David confessed his concerns to the prophet
Nathan. Later, we will see a time when Nathan has to confront David
about sin.
James 5:16 directs our accountability
"Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another" Is
there anyone to whom you confess your faults and seek counsel when you
have offended God?
Yes
Does this person offer godly counsel?
yes, she always counsels me with specific scripture
God was teaching an important lesson through David and Nathan in today's lesson
David- don't assume that every great idea you have is a godly idea
Nathan - don't assume that David is always right just because he was
chosen by me as a leader
Have you ever found yourself in a difficult situation after wrongly
making either one of these assumptions?
Oh, yes! I have assumed my ideas were right because they favored God
We must wait on God's appointment for an idea. We cannot just
immediately begin work on an idea without seeking counsel from God
first. That is why it is so important to pray over everything you do
in the name of the Father.
Waiting on the Lord brings at least two wonderful results. Read the
following verses to look at these results
Isaiah 40: 31
Hope in the Lord will renew our strength. We will be able to soar on
the wings like eagles, run and not grow weary, walk and not grow faint
Isaiah 64: 4
God acts on behalf of those who wait on Him
John 1: 14
"The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us"
God did not want David to rebuild His temple. He wanted one of
children to do this. God chose to have the temple built during a
reign of peace. David points out in scripture that he was not allowed
to rebuild the temple because he was a warrior and he had shed blood.
Have you recently become aware of something God wants to give you or do for you?
Yes
Are you accepting what God is offering you?
Oh, yes...with open arms!!!

This concludes day one of week 6...the weeks are just flying by!!!
This entire week, we are going to focus on the virtues of David during
the early years of his reign. It is going to be a great week!!!
Love to you all,
In Him
