Week 5 - Day 2 - Things That Bring Change

Today's Treasure:

"The war between the house of Saul and the house of David lasted a long time. David grew stronger and stronger, while the house of Saul grew weaker and weaker"

2 Samuel 3:1

Today's study is about the battle(s) that had to take place to bring about change in Israel. See, the house of Judah anointed David king of Israel; however, this wasn't accepted throughout Israel. As a matter of fact, the house of Saul anointed Saul's youngest son, Ish Bosheth, king of Israel. This has to tell you that there is going to be trouble. Beth feels we need to gain knowledge of the characters mentioned in 2 Samuel 2:8 - 3:5. I made a list just for note keeping sake.

Abner- Son of Ner, commander of Saul's army

Ish Bosheth - Son of Saul, 40 years old when he was crowned and he reigned for 2 years

Joab, Abishaid and Asahel are all sons of Zeruiah

1st battle - David's men were victorious over Abner's men

David's sons

1st - Amnon - son of Ahinoam
2nd - Kileab - Son of Abigail
3rd- Absalom - son of Maacah
4th - Adonijah - son of Haggith
5th - Shephatiah - son of Abital
6th - Ithream - son of Eglah

Read 2 Samuel 2:8 - 3:5

The introductory paragraph for this week introduced an equation. Please write this equation: Time + conflict = change

Reread 2 Samuel 3:1 Explain how this verse supports the equation

The war lasted for a long time (time)

war = conflict

David grew stronger, Saul grew weaker = change

There is no doubt that every battle we face in life changes us. It is our responsibility to make sure it changes us in a way that will further the kingdom of God. Beth says, "we can't always choose our battles, but we can certainly make choices that affect our outcome." You know this speaks volumes to me. It is so important to me that my choices affect the outcome of this cancer. It is important to me because I want God to receive all of the glory and honor for everything that happens while I am on this road. I believe that I do not have the right to doubt what my God is capable of doing for me. He is sovereign...I am not. I can make a choice to proclaim the power of God and speak it to this cancer. Or, I can make a choice to believe the world. Once I made the decision to proclaim the power and glory of God, I lost the right to doubt it. When God does heal me, my proclamation will be a witness to others about how amazing our God is!!!

Read Ephesians 2: 1 - 3

What source of much of the warfare we experience does this passage describe?

Wrath

Summarize each of the following verses:

Galatians 5: 15 - 16
If you gratify the sinful nature, it will destroy you

Ephesians 6:12
Our struggle is against evil

1 John 2: 15 - 16
Sin is of the world - if you love the world, the Father is not in you

Read Psalm 20: 1-9
verse 1 - "May the Lord answer you when you are in distress"

According to 1 John 2:20, how could Psalm 20:6 apply to Christians?
All believers are anointed by Christ

What parallel can you draw between Psalm 20:6 and Romans 8:34?
The power of God is capable of healing through Christ who is at His right hand interceding for us.

When we trust n the name of the Lord our God, what will be the ultimate results of our battles according to Psalm 20:8?
We will overcome our enemies

Psalm 20:9
"Answer us when we call"

God could rescue us with or without our cry for help. Why do you think He wants us to call on Him before He rescues us?

When we call out to God, we are acknowledging our need for Him in our lives. God created us for the purpose of having a relationship with Him. When we reach out to Him, we are showing our love for Him and our need to have Him as part of our lives.

Today we have learned of three enemies that we have:

1. Satan and the evil principalities
2. the world
3. our old sin nature

Are you aware of presently being in battle with any of the three right now?
Yes - I have to battle the doubt the world want me in every day

What have you learned today that will help you battle this enemy?
God is sovereign , and I do not have the right to doubt Him

Have a great day!!!

Love to you all

Tiff
